Ducati Cape Town

Ducati Cape Town opened its doors at the popular V&A Waterfront on the 27th of February 2009. The Italian Style, passion and sophistication synonymous with Ducati are all on show.

Neil Myburgh is the lucky person who beat entrants from 75 countries in a competition staged by SanDisk, the world’s leading producers of memory cards.

For his effort Myburgh will ride off on a Ducati 1098 Superbike, which was handed to him at a special event on top of Table Mountain.

The Ducati Superbike winner is originally from Zimbabwe and the MD of a steel company in Johannesburg. On a recent visit to Zimbabwe he had left his flash drive with his mother, and on return needed one urgently for himself. He dashed to his nearest store, bought a SanDisk flash drive and entered the competition. Neil was overjoyed at the news of winning as he is an avid biker and enjoys the outdoors.

The launch of the Ducati Street fighter –Soul of a Superbike, Attitude of a fighter

Living up to its name, there was little dought that the Ducati Streetfighter would score a round one knock-out when it entered the ring for the first time at the 2008 EICMA Show in Milan an immediate impact on the international press and the public, it was nominated “most beautiful bike in show” and raised the bar for the for extreme nakeds by creating a new point of reference in the market

Ducati Streetfighter

The superbike soul of the Ducati Streetfighter combines aggressiveness with the refined elegance of a naked and just one look at the bike provokes an intense rush of adrenaline and excitement. Stripped to the bare essentials, its combination of state-of- the-art race technology, skeletal styling and contemporary design takes Ducati’s big naked concept to the very top of the fighter food chain

Ducati Streetfighter

The true Ducati spirit is captured by an incredible powerful Desmodromic L-Twin 1098 “Testastretta EvoluzioneZ” engine producing 155hp with an incredibly wide spread of power thanks to 85lb-ft (11.7kgm) of torque. The street fighter’s power and precision is further maximised by weight in an just 368lb (167kg) (S version) and futher benefits from technology derived directly from Ducati’s MotoGP and Superbike projects.

YAMAHA DISTRIBUTORS based in Pinetown, KwaZulu Natal, are the exclusive importers and distributors of most Yamaha products in South Africa. The company has been distributing Yamaha motorcycles since 1962 and has added other product lines as Yamaha has grown and diversified.

FJR1300

If you enjoy traveling first class, the new YAMAHA FJR 1300 is for you. Nothing opens up your world like motorcycle touring – you see, hear and feel things that you probably won’t even notice if you traveled any other way. But just because you like the adventure of exploring country roads on a motorcycle doesn’t mean that you have to ride a bike that handles like a bus!

Introducing the 2008 Yamaha FJR1300 – our latest sport tourer that handles like a sport bike with the performance to match.

TDM900

If you love all kinds of travel, here is the motorcycle that will take you wherever you want to go. The 2009 TDM900 is an ultra-versatile performer with a sportbike’s soul, created to do it all, from taking you on unforgettable touring trips through the mountains to your everyday, workaday commuting trip. It is the ultimate in versatility, with a flexible big-twin powerplant, well-balanced chassis and excellent comfort for both rider and passenger.

YZF-R1

The YZF-R1 is a legend of the supersport world, an acclaimed one-litre performer that’s become a motorcycling icon, an all-powerful World Superbike race-winning machine that’s also a monument to the power of beauty. The R1’s performance is electrifying and yet what makes this motorcycle truly remarkable is its superbly rider-friendly character because Yamaha’s avant-garde, race-bred technology puts you confidently in control.

All-new YZF-R1, light, powerful and packed with motoGP technology, the YZF-R1 is the most advanced Open-class production motorcycle ever built with the world’s first electronic variable-length intake funnel system.

The YZF-R1 uses the YCC-T fly-by-wire throttle system for flawless response under all conditions.

All new aluminium Deltabox frame and swing-arm take Open-class handling to the next performance level.

YZF-R6

The 2008 R6 is packed with tech from our world championship race programmes to take your riding excitement to the extreme. The R6 enhances man-machine connection, giving you the confidence to exploit your skills. You get track-developed electronics: YCC-T chip-controlled throttle for ultimate acceleration and YCC-I electronically controlled variable intake funnels for bigger power and torque. Plus a race-developed chassis spec for razor-sharp handling.

FZ6-R

A rider in the market for an entry level or commuter 600cc bike doesn’t have to compromise performance or style to get value: introducing the new 2009 FZ6R! It’s a great combination of performance, handling, and exciting sport bike style, but also with a low seat height that’s both adjustable to fit a wider variety of riders and also narrower where it counts to make it even easier to put both feet on the ground.

The newly designed engine delivers smooth power just the way today’s rider needs it, brisk acceleration with plenty of torque that makes it a pleasure to get around town, with lots in reserve for when you want more. This is certainly not a “no frills” motor. It’s based on the awesome, previous-generation R6 motor, fuel injected and tuned for real world street riding with no-hassle reliability and all-day comfort.

Even if your primary goal is commuting to school or work, you want to be able to get out and have fun riding some twisty back roads. The FZ6R is ready to put a grin on your face! The newly designed diamond-shaped frame made of high-tensile steel pipes, using the engine as a structural member of the chassis, becomes the foundation for handling performance. It’s designed to provide the right rigidity balance to contribute to smooth cornering performance.

When it comes to putting power to the pavement, the new FZ6R uses nothing less than quality radial tires, 120/70R 17-inch front and 160/16R 17-inch rear. And this bike’s excellent stopping performance is due to dual 298mm front discs and a 245mm rear disc, both with comfortable to use controls.

We have been in operation since 1999 where we started the KTM dealership on our smallholding in Cato Ridge, we were the first appointed dealer in South Africa by in the importer, Butch Hirsch. For those of you who don’t know, KTM is an Austrian made motorcycle.

Our first trading year we sold a total of 50 units!, however by the end of the July 2006 we had sold over 185 units! With KTM being a European manufacturer our model runs from July through July so we are always ahead of our competition when it comes to latest technology. KTM is a very dynamic and pro-active and in the last 5 years we have seem them build a brand new motorcycle specifically for the Paris- Dakar Rally – the 950 twin cylinder which went onto win the Dakar in her first attempt. The factory then developed this for the public and the 950cc Adventure was released as our twin cylinder dual sport bike, ideal for both on & off road touring.

Simultaneously KTM then moved into the 125cc Moto GP and this being their first attempt at road racing, the Redbull KTM GP team is now starting to notch up wins.
Due to KTM Austria’s initiative in growing KTM from solely an off road motorcycle manufacturer into the road bike market so too did we look to expanding our dealership, Rodney Gray the legendary multiple South African Superbike Champion joined our dealership in preparation for the vision that KTM Austria has for its world wide dealer network.

We can boast a staff compliment of highly qualified technician and sales personnel. The ‘Maritzburg dealership is a service centre only, and by that we mean, we have a fully equipped workshop with specialised KTM tool & diagnostic equipment, the workshop is headed up by Rod Gray with the help of young & talented Linda Hlongwane. Our newest recruit is Shayne Dewsbury who has taken to sales of spares and accessories.

The Pinetown workshop is headed up by Wayne O’Neale together with Mark Dewsbury, together they have over 60years technical experience! They are ably assisted by Bruce Palmer and Norman Steyn. Richard Manning has now moved to the Pinetown dealership where he will head up the sales team of both new and used motorcycles, he is assisted by
Shaun O’Berg & Alan Reddy both who have been in the motorcycle business for many years Alan comes from the Ekerold stable and Shaun DMC. Joey Buys abley assists Shaun, Alan and Richard both in the spares department and with general office duties.

Mrs B or “Gran” as she affectionately known, heads up the book keeping side of the business, by means of a remote computer from Cato Ridge. Ask any customer if you catch her in any shop – she makes a MEAN CUP OF TEA!
Hazel works between both the ‘maritzburg & Pinetown dealerships and also plans my busy schedule. I divide my time between both shops and focus mainly on technical and bike sales.
