Neil Myburgh is the lucky person who beat entrants from 75 countries in a competition staged by SanDisk, the world’s leading producers of memory cards.

For his effort Myburgh will ride off on a Ducati 1098 Superbike, which was handed to him at a special event on top of Table Mountain.

The Ducati Superbike winner is originally from Zimbabwe and the MD of a steel company in Johannesburg. On a recent visit to Zimbabwe he had left his flash drive with his mother, and on return needed one urgently for himself. He dashed to his nearest store, bought a SanDisk flash drive and entered the competition. Neil was overjoyed at the news of winning as he is an avid biker and enjoys the outdoors.

Bike Me Aprilia

Bike MeAprilia

Aprilia is Europe’s second largest producer of motorcycles and scooters and the only non-Japanese manufacturer with a complete range of two-wheeled vehicles.

Aprilia is an unconventional and ultra-modern company even in terms of its organisation. Strategic planning, design, marketing and all know how are concentrated in Aprilia’s historical home in Noale near Venice. Just a few kilometres away, still in the province of Venice, lies the Scorzè production plant that was expanded and partly restructured in 1997.

Scorzè’s assembly lines increased from 8 to 11 in number, giving the plant its currents production capacity of 2,500 units a day (between motorcycles and scooters).

From the time individual parts reach the assembly line right up to the moment each motorcycle undergoes final testing in a special computer controlled test cell, each phase of production is subjected to rigorous quality control. Aprilia’s quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2000 standard.

The company’s Logistics Centre is also based in Noale. The Centre occupies an area of nearly 70,000 square metres (31,000 of which are indoors). The nearby town of Santa Maria di Sala is home to Customer Service, the organisation that manages Aprilia’s after sales service to dealers and customers, no mean task considering that there are about 2 million Aprilia motorcycles on the roads of the world today.

new Aprilia motorcycle or scooter is sold somewhere in the world on average every 3 minutes, a success based on advanced technology and excellence and innovation in design.
Aprilia’s share of export markets has grown dramatically in recent years. In 1992 Aprilia earned 27 billion Liras from exports. Today that figure has risen to over 250 million Euros.
Aprilia’s sales network boasts 192 official dealers and 1480 authorised sales outlets in Italy. Aprilia also owns 4 foreign subsidiaries, in Croatia, Greece, USA and Japan, and 4 selling agencies (UK, France, Spain, Germany). Aprilia machines are sold in another 24 countries worldwide via a network of exclusive importers who supply 1,800 dealers.

The company’s marketing objective for the short term is to penetrate the strategic markets of China and India, the two countries that now account for the sale of most of the world’s vehicle production.

Negotiations with Chinese and Indian industries are already at an advanced stage and will soon enable Aprilia to take a giant step forward in the implementation of its strategy for globalisation.

Aprilia is not just market leader. In very little time the company has become a leading name on the world’s racing circuits too, establishing itself as one of the most prestigious and successful marques around.

Since 1985, when Aprilia first entered the world speed championships, the company has won 32 world titles.

KTM Motor Bikes

We have been in operation since 1999 where we started the KTM dealership on our smallholding in Cato Ridge, we were the first appointed dealer in South Africa by in the importer, Butch Hirsch. For those of you who don’t know, KTM is an Austrian made motorcycle.

Our first trading year we sold a total of 50 units!, however by the end of the July 2006 we had sold over 185 units! With KTM being a European manufacturer our model runs from July through July so we are always ahead of our competition when it comes to latest technology. KTM is a very dynamic and pro-active and in the last 5 years we have seem them build a brand new motorcycle specifically for the Paris- Dakar Rally – the 950 twin cylinder which went onto win the Dakar in her first attempt. The factory then developed this for the public and the 950cc Adventure was released as our twin cylinder dual sport bike, ideal for both on & off road touring.

Simultaneously KTM then moved into the 125cc Moto GP and this being their first attempt at road racing, the Redbull KTM GP team is now starting to notch up wins.
Due to KTM Austria’s initiative in growing KTM from solely an off road motorcycle manufacturer into the road bike market so too did we look to expanding our dealership, Rodney Gray the legendary multiple South African Superbike Champion joined our dealership in preparation for the vision that KTM Austria has for its world wide dealer network.

We can boast a staff compliment of highly qualified technician and sales personnel. The ‘Maritzburg dealership is a service centre only, and by that we mean, we have a fully equipped workshop with specialised KTM tool & diagnostic equipment, the workshop is headed up by Rod Gray with the help of young & talented Linda Hlongwane. Our newest recruit is Shayne Dewsbury who has taken to sales of spares and accessories.

The Pinetown workshop is headed up by Wayne O’Neale together with Mark Dewsbury, together they have over 60years technical experience! They are ably assisted by Bruce Palmer and Norman Steyn. Richard Manning has now moved to the Pinetown dealership where he will head up the sales team of both new and used motorcycles, he is assisted by
Shaun O’Berg & Alan Reddy both who have been in the motorcycle business for many years Alan comes from the Ekerold stable and Shaun DMC. Joey Buys abley assists Shaun, Alan and Richard both in the spares department and with general office duties.

Mrs B or “Gran” as she affectionately known, heads up the book keeping side of the business, by means of a remote computer from Cato Ridge. Ask any customer if you catch her in any shop – she makes a MEAN CUP OF TEA!
Hazel works between both the ‘maritzburg & Pinetown dealerships and also plans my busy schedule. I divide my time between both shops and focus mainly on technical and bike sales.
